A native of western Pennsylvania, Bill graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He is also a graduate of Lebanon Valley College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. Bill earned a Master of Science degree in Thanatology from Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 2026.
After relocating to Elizabethtown in 1994, he was employed for 11 years as a licensed funeral director by the former Frank S. Miller Funeral Home and a member and District 9 Governor of the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association. Bill is a member of the Lancaster County Funeral Directors Association, where he formerly served as its board president. He is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Manheim, as well as a member of both the Elizabethtown and Manheim Chambers of Commerce.
“Experiencing my grandmother’s funeral as a young boy impressed upon me the value of a meaningful funeral service. As a young, widowed, single mother of four, she struggled to provide for her family. Our family was shown such respect by the people at the funeral home when she died. I remember how nice she looked, the beautiful flowers that were sent by caring people, and the dignified procession driving slowly to the cemetery. That day a seed was sown in my young soul. Becoming a funeral director has allowed me to help other people honor the life and love they have for those special to them.”
A fifth-generation funeral director, Frank returned to being a licensed funeral director with Spence Funeral Services in 2015 after pursuing other interests.
He owned and operated the former Frank S. Miller Funeral Home, Inc., in Elizabethtown, which was founded by his great-great-grandfather and owned by the Miller family for 133 years. Returning to funeral service with Spence Funeral Service has given Frank an opportunity to provide care to the community as he once did.
“I began helping and learning about life around the funeral home from my father and grandfather during my early school days. It soon became the way of life I wanted to pursue. Once I became licensed and later purchased the funeral home from my father, I realized that helping others during their beginning days of grief was exactly what I was to be doing. I often look back on my days at the funeral home and appreciate the opportunity I have now to continue that service to others.”
Kiersten brings a friendly, supportive attitude to work each day as she answers phones, greets families, and manages the everyday affairs of the office. Families all agree that Kiersten’s warm and friendly personality perfectly complements the respect and dignity shown to everyone at Spence Funeral Services.
