Obituary

Shirley A. Altman, 89, of Akron, PA, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday morning, August 30, 2026, at Legend of Lititz. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Gilgore Ream. She was the wife of Gerald F. "Jerry" Altman for 67 years prior to his passing in 2022.

Shirley was a member of New Joy Brethren in Christ Church in Ephrata. She was employed as an assembler by the former K-D Tool Company for 25 years until it closed in 1992. She then worked part-time as an inspector for Precision Form in Lititz until her retirement in 2019.

Shirley loved bingo, playing cards, and visiting Ocean City, Maryland. Known to her husband Jerry as “The Queen,” she made an impression on everyone she met, leading many to say, “Everyone needs a Shirley in their life!”

She is survived by a daughter, Sherry L. Jones of Reinholds, four grandchildren, Brian Frederickson, Heather Lynn Tonks, Brittany Dietz, and Christopher Jones, five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Catherine O’Dell of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy L. Dietz, and two sisters, Paula Ream and Fay Hamm.

There will be no viewing. Her ashes will be united with her late husband’s at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be mailed to Serenity Hospice, 205 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601.
