Obituary

Ruth R. Heffley, 82, of Manheim, PA, formerly of Mastersonville, died peacefully and went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday morning, July 8, 2014 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim following a brief illness. Born in Swatara Twp., Lebanon County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Carrie Rank Wenger. She was the wife of Ralph R. Heffley for 62 years on October 20. A homemaker, she was a member of the former Mastersonville Brethren in Christ Church where she taught Sunday school in the primary department. More recently, she and her husband faithfully attended Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim. She finished her high school education at Messiah College and served in 1W service at Byberry State Hospital in Philadelphia. Ruth loved singing. She sang with her family as well as with various groups and choruses over the years, including the Manheim Area Chorus. She was also a past president of the ladies auxiliary of Mastersonville Volunteer Fire Company. Ruth enjoyed gardening and solving word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, James R., husband of Susan J. Gochenauer Heffley, of New Providence, David L., husband of Charlotte A. Smith Heffley, of Manheim, and Timothy M. Heffley of Lititz; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Esther Hoffer of Lancaster, and Malinda, wife of Roger Bomberger, of Lebanon. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Anna Mae High Wenger; and two sisters, Mabel Long and Rachel Brownsberger. A funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA. Interment will follow in Mastersonville Brethren in Christ Cemetery. The family will receive guests at Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545 on Friday afternoon from 2-4:00 PM and at the church on Saturday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the time of the service. If desired, contributions may be made to Mastersonville Volunteer Fire Company, 2166 Meadow View Road, Manheim, PA 17545 or to the benevolent fund of Pleasant View Retirement Community.
