Ronald L. Shaffer, 56, of Mastersonville, PA, peacefully went home to be with his Lord on Friday morning, January 1, 2010 at his home following a lengthy illness. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of J. Marlin, Sr. and Dorothy Foreman Shaffer of Manheim. He was the husband of Deborah M. Gibble Shaffer for 31 years on December 9.
Ron was a member of Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim. He was a 1973 graduate of both Manheim Central High School and Mount Joy Vocational-Technical School where he completed the tool and die course. He was employed for 23 years as a tool and die maker by Graybill Tool and Die, Inc. in Manheim.
An outdoorsman, Ron enjoyed hunting, riding four wheelers, and snow mobiling in Maine, New York, and Canada. He was a member of Mastersonville Volunteer Fire Company, Elstonville Sportsmen Association, and Dela-Chess Fishing Association.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jami M., wife of Lee L. Brandt, of Lititz, PA; three sisters, Myrl, wife of Clair Greiner, of Lancaster, Connie, wife of Kenneth Rutt, of Drumore, PA, and Judy, wife of Ron Strickler, of Lititz; and a bother, J. Marlin, Jr., husband of Kandis Shaffer, of Manheim. Ron was looking forward to the birth of their first grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Nicholas L. Shaffer.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday morning, January 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA with Ron Strickler and Nathan Myer officiating. Interment in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday evening from 6:30-8:00 PM and on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
