Obituary

Jane H. Schroeder, 72, of Mount Joy, PA, died on Sunday afternoon, March 20, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Blossburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond J. and Madeline E. Irvin Hymes. She was the wife of The Rev. Carl E. Schroeder for 37 years prior to his passing in 2012. Jane was a member of All Saints Anglican Church in Lancaster where she served on the vestry. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Mansfield University in 1963 and began her graduate work in music therapy at Miami University in Ohio. She received her Master's degree from West Chester University. Jane was employed by the School District of Lancaster as an elementary music teacher for more than 20 years. Later, she was employed providing customer service by the former Donecker's in Ephrata, K-D Tool in Lancaster, and Harrington Hoist in Manheim. She sang with Musica Sacra and the Lancaster Symphony Chorus and also was a flutist for summer music events. She also enjoyed crewel work, embroidery, and solving jigsaw puzzles. She is survived by two children, Stephanie S., wife of James C. Landis, of Mount Joy, and Charles E., husband of Deborah Brown Schroeder, of Appleton, WI; four grandchildren, James, Benjamin, Samuel, and Emilie Schroeder, all of Appleton; and a sister, Judith I. Hymes of Chestertown, MD. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 3:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church, 223 West Orange Street, Lancaster, PA with Fr. James V. Johnson, Jr. officiating. Private interment will be in Mount Rose Cemetery, York. The family will receive guests at the church on Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 PM until the time of the service.
