J. Becker Ginder, 86, of Lancaster, PA, formerly of Manheim, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, whom he served faithfully, on Thursday morning, December 10, 2015 at Brethren Village. Born in Rapho Twp., Lancaster County, he was the son of the late John S. and Maude Becker Ginder. He was the husband of Vera H. Wolgemuth Ginder for 57 years on February 15.
Becker was a self-employed house painter for 62 years, however, his passion was for congregational ministry. He was recognized by the Atlantic Northeast District Church of the Brethren for 50 years of ministry spent shepherding his home congregation of Chiques Church of the Brethren. As a young man, Becker traveled by ship to Europe with Heifer Project International as a "sea going cowboy" caring for heifers that were to be shared with those recovering from the effects of World War II.
Becker loved and cared deeply about his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four loving daughters, Linda, wife of John Shenk, of Lititz, Lucy, wife of Julian Rittenhouse, Greenbank, WV, Louise, wife of Todd Graybill, of Pottstown, and Lynette, wife of Wayne Ferguson, of Troutville, VA, 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Hollinger of Lancaster; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Ginder of York. He was preceded in death by a brother Harold Ginder.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday morning, December 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA 17545. There will be no public viewing. The family will receive guests at the church on Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 PM and on Wednesday at a luncheon immediately following the service. Please omit flowers.
