Obituary

J. Everett Kreider, 90, of 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA, unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord on Sunday evening, November 28, 2010 at Brethren Village. Born in Drumore Twp., he was the son of the late Harry E. and Emma Pfautz Kreider. He was the husband of the late Florence May Neff Kreider who died in 1998. Mr. Kreider was a lifelong member of Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren in Quarryville where he served as head usher for many years. He was a 1937 graduate of the former Drumore High School. Prior to retiring in 1977, Mr. Kreider was a self-employed dairy farmer in Drumore Twp. for 50 years. He was also an auctioneer for 50 years. Following retirement, he sold Pioneer seed corn and John Deere farm equipment. Mr. Kreider served on the board of directors of Farm Bureau, Agway Farm and Home, D.H.I.A, and the Soil and Water Conservation District. He was the first in the area to put his farm in the ag preserve. In his earlier years he was a 4-H club leader for 22 years. He was also a member of the Wakefield Lions Club for 20 years. A golf enthusiast, he enjoyed annual golfing trips to Myrtle Beach with friends. He also enjoyed hunting at Pine Ridge Hunting Camp in Potter County. Mr. Kreider is survived by three daughters, Joyce E., wife of Marlin Shenk, Manheim, Linda L., wife of Kerry Munro, of Alberta, Canada, and Diane S., wife of William Hershey, of Quarryville, a son, J. Everett, Jr., husband of Donna Montgomery Kreider, of New Providence, 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter; a brother, Stanley E., husband of the late Mildred Kreider, of Quarryville; and two sisters, Sara M. Koser of Elizabethtown, and Betty A. Griffith of Willow Valley. He was preceded in death by a daughter, M. Jean Hoover, four brothers, Jacob, John, Clyde, and Leon, and three sisters, Lena Kreider, Marie Heller, and Bonnie Hagen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 5:00 PM at Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA with Pastor Jim Rhen and Rev. H. Fred Bernhard officiating. Interment will be private in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be no viewing. The family will receive guests at a reception in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service. The family requests that flowers please be omitted.
