Heaven gained another angel today, Saturday, January 13, 2018. Helen Becker left this world to be greeted in heaven by her beloved husband, Charles Becker, who she loved for all her life. She also was met by her mother, Daisy Shank Martin, father, Christian Martin, a brother she loved dearly, John H. Martin, and her nephew, George Fitzwater. I have no doubt that they are having a great time catching up and enjoying some good laughs.
She leaves behind a sister, Elizabeth Boyle, and niece, Beverly Frankeny, whose visits always made her smile.
I, Lynn Yates, was the lucky one to be blessed to be by her side during her final journey on this earth. In my lifetime I never witnessed her upset with anyone, even when she had every right to be. She was a woman of grace. She didn't preach at anyone but she led by example. She accepted people as they were and enjoyed making friends wherever she traveled. Even in her final months when ALS had taken her voice and made walking impossible she refused to feel sorry for herself and enjoyed "the simple things" in life. She was always happy to have her friends visit. When we as family got together and jokingly "picked" on each other, she would do her silent laughter and light up the room with her smile. She enjoyed visits with her great niece, Heather Sugden, and her husband, Brett, who would decorate her room, play cards with her, and do her nails. She enjoyed visits with her great nephew, Jeremy Leach, and his wife, Kate. She would always get a huge smile when my husband, Cedric W. Yates, III, would spend time with her. This October she even was able to be a part of our wedding.
We will miss you Aunt Helen; you were truly one of a kind! Tell everyone we love them, give them a hug for us, and thank you for the wonderful memories you left with us. Your job here is done. You had a life well lived. We are better for having had you in our lives. Until we meet again, you will be in our hearts always.
