Obituary

Gerald N. "Jerry" DeShong, 69, formerly of McConnellsburg, passed away on Saturday morning, June 28, 2014 at the Masonic Health Care Center in Elizabethtown following a lengthy illness. Born in Everett, PA, he was the son of the late Carl E. and Rosalie V. Mellott DeShong. Throughout his career, Jerry represented many companies by selling their products and services. The most noted were the former Charles Chips, Quality Inn in Centerville, and Jerry's Pizza in East Petersburg, which he owned. He was a member of Mount Zion F&AM, No. 774 in McConnellsburg. He was a former member of the Jaycees in York. In addition to hunting and traveling, Jerry enjoyed dining at all types of restaurants and experiencing different kinds of food. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and was still perfecting his ability to satisfy his passion to cultivate roses. He is survived by two daughters, Kim Kulp of Ephrata and Kerry L. Sorber of Nanticoke; four grandchildren, Andy Kulp, Emily Kulp, Mason Sorber, and Matthew Sorber; and a brother, Nelson E., husband of Wanda DeShong, of Graterford. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 2:00 PM at John S. Sell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gary George officiating. There will be no viewing. The family will receive guests immediately following the service. Please omit flowers. If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to Masonic Charities, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Arrangements by Spence Funeral Services, Manheim, PA.
