Durell Myers "Chip" Bissinger, 76, of Manheim, PA died Monday evening, December 14, 2009 at Lancashire Hall in Lancaster, PA. Chip proudly served in the United States Navy for more than 20 years prior to retiring in 1972 as Chief Warrant Officer, W-2. He was stationed aboard many ships during his service, including the USS Boston, USS Arcadia, USS Puget Sound, and the USS Albany.
Born in Denver, PA on July 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Roy and Sarah Myers Bissinger. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Manheim where he graduated from Manheim High School in 1951. As an adult, Chip resided in Bath, Maine until returning to Manheim in 1996.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manheim.
He is survived by three children, Durell, Jr., husband of Amy Bissinger, of Phippsburg, Maine, Victoria, wife of Norman Koehling, of Sebasco Estates, Maine, and Kathleen Willey of Topsham, Maine. Pappy will be sadly missed by three grandchildren, Jason Willey, Megan Koehling, and Michelle Hooper; and one great grandson, Andrew Willey. He is also survived by two sisters, Rubye Barto with whom he resided, and Doreen Myers of Lancaster PA; and two brothers Donald, husband of Virginia Bissinger, of Landisville, PA, and Melvin "Barney", husband of June Bissinger, of Manheim.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church, 2 South Hazel Street, Manheim, PA with Pastor James W. Roth officiating. Interment will follow in Manheim Fairview Cemetery Manheim, PA. There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
