Dorothy Lois George, age 91, life-long resident of the Lancaster area and wife of the late Harry George Jr, passed away on March 10 following a several-year residency at Providence Place Senior Living in Lancaster PA.

Born December 20, 1932, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Harry Hastings Hamill and late Reba (Randow) Hamill. She graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School in 1950 and married her late husband in June of 1951. In addition to raising four children, Dorothy held various positions at Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital, Gimbel's Department Store, and finally Boscov's at the Park City Mall where she was employed from 1988 until her retirement in 2005. As she would fondly reflect, she thoroughly enjoyed the jobs and particularly the daily cordial relationships with customers and co-workers that her positions at Gimbel's and Boscov's made possible. Her dedication to these jobs and the pleasantness with which she performed them were lauded by employers and co-workers alike.

Dorothy, as with many others of her advanced age, suffered from the slowly evolving ravages of Alzheimer's, but through it all remained the sweet, pleasant person she had always been. While she will be sorely missed, there is consolation in knowing that her peaceful passing brings welcome relief from her long ordeal.

Dorothy is survived by three children, Michael George of Manassas VA, Suzanne Zipp of Lancaster, and Bryan George of Pequea; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Neil, Melinda, Hayley, Lauren, Harry, Theodore, and Kerry; and one great-grandson, Cameron. She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Harry George Jr in 2021, and by her son, Stephen George of Mount Joy, PA in 2016.

Dorothy will be interred next to her husband at Conestoga Memorial Park in Lancaster, PA following a brief graveside service at 1:00, Friday 15 March.
