Doris A. Grau, 95, of Lancaster, PA, went home to be with her Lord and King on Saturday morning, May 10, 2014 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Columbia, PA following a period of declining health. Born in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Mabel C. Ashford Stroman. She was the wife of the late Herbert F. Grau who died in 1979.
Doris was a member of the Lancaster Christian and Missionary Alliance Church where she taught Sunday school, was a leader of the 55+ Group, and shared her gift of singing as a soloist and in a ladies trio in church and on radio and television ministries. She was employed by the former Hamilton Watch Company in Lancaster and by Dr. Denlinger. She also worked for Wilbur Chocolate in Lititz, PA. An accomplished poet, Doris penned over 1,000 poems.
She is survived by a brother, LaVerne Stroman of Lititz. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William A. Stroman.
Private services and interment will be at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Lancaster, PA. There will be no viewing or visitation. If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to Grau-Graybill Memorial Fund at Nyack (NY) College, c/o Lancaster Alliance Church, 210 Pitney Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.
