Carolyn E. Benton, 78, of 258 Terrace Gardens, Manheim, PA, formerly of Merrick, NY, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, February 24, 2010. Born in Queens Village, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Grace Tompkins Creveling. She was the wife of Fred C. Benton, Jr. for 47 years on July 20, 2009. A homemaker, Mrs. Benton was an active member and served in various ministries of the former Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in Malverne, NY. She enjoyed being with people, often providing a listening ear. She enjoyed traveling, including going on cruises in her younger years. Mrs. Benton had a special touch growing African violets. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Gary E., husband of Nancy J. Dunn Loeffler, of East Brunswick, NJ, and Peter T., husband of Linda E. Lervik Benton, of Elizabethtown, PA; four grandchildren, Stephen and Kaitlyn Loeffler, and Amanda and Jonathan Benton. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Loeffler, in 1953; and two brothers, Sidney Creveling and Charles Creveling. Family and guests are invited to attend her funeral service on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545. Private interment will be in Chiques Cemetery, Manheim. There will be no viewing. The family will receive guests at Hoffer Auditorium on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
